The source comes from the people: a wandering plot developed by both Armenian and foreign writers. Toumanian proves himself: "T. Phirumyan – who lived in Van for several years – told me this legend".

The legend basis is the mythological story of Hero and Leander's love. As a wandering plot, it was transmitted to European literature of the new period, as well as to Armenian folklore.
